Conference Workshops:

Workshop on Deepwater Pre-Salt Reservoirs!:

OMAE 2012 will feature the "Pre-Salt Technologies Workshop: Challenges and Opportunities" on July 3rd and 4th as part of the conference. Admission to the workshop is included with full conference registration.

The recent discovery of the Pre-Salt Reservoirs in deepwater off the shores of Brazil have doubled the country's proven oil reserves. The Pre-Salt region includes an offshore area of 800km by 200km within the Brazilian economic exclusive zone which shows good promise for a substantial amount of oil and gas extraction. An immediate result is the expansion of the oil & gas industry in Brazil. Supply companies are establishing offices, manufacturing facilities and research centers to benefit from and contribute to the find in the new Pre-Salt Reservoirs.

Workshop/Special Session on Verification & Validation (V&V): Attendees are invited to participate in this Symposium-8-10 V&V Workshop on CFD for Offshore Flows by providing computations for one or more of three test cases. With the results, Code Verification, Solution Verification and Solution Validation will be performed following modern V&V techniques. The participants can submit papers with the results of each exercise to this workshop special session (following the usual OMAE rules) and the results to the organization for the final comparison V&V analysis. The 31st International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE 2012) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Join your colleagues from industry, academia and government from July 1-6, 2012.

OMAE 2012 is the ideal forum for researchers, engineers, managers, technicians and students from the scientific and industrial communities from around the world to meet and present advances in technology and its scientific support; to exchange ideas and experiences whilst promoting technological progress and its application in industry; and to promote international cooperation in ocean, offshore and arctic engineering. Following on the tradition of excellence of previous OMAE conferences, more than 800 technical papers are planned for presentation.

Technical Program

Our program will follow the tradition of excellence standard in all previous OMAE conferences. Your host COPPE/UFRJ is pleased to announce two special events that will take place during OMAE 2012. The following 11 standard symposia plus 2 special symposia are planned:

Attention Authors

When submitting your abstract, please submit directly to a session. Please be informed that session selection at this stage is available only for your convenience. Placement of your paper in the final program will depend on the program and on the determination of the organizers. Please keep in mind that submitting to a particular session does not necessarily mean that your paper will remain in that session.

At least one author of a paper must register for the conference and pay all appropriate fees. An author may present a maximum of two papers at the conference.

Conference Venue
Besides comfortable guest rooms, a terrace with two swimming pools and well equipped recreation facilities, the Windsor Barra Hotel was selected as the OMAE 2012 venue because it is the biggest and the best in Rio de Janeiro!

OMAE participants will benefit from its location in the famous Barra da Tijuca, renowned for its beaches, restaurants, bars, shopping, resorts, theme parks and reserves. It will become even more famous as it is the centre of the 2016 Olympic Games! You will be able to say “I’ve been there!” while watching the world compete.

Join OMAE 2012 as an author, presenter, sponsor and participant!

See you in Rio!

OMAE 2012 is organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OOAE), the Division of the International Petroleum Technology Institute (IPTI), and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ).
