ASME Think Tank Summit Video: Now Online!
This month, "Fruits and Pitfalls of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)," followed by "Human Factor Engineering" in December.

This summit, held during the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ (ASME) summer annual business meeting, brought together leaders of industry, government, academia and ASME in three 90-minute town-hall-style discussions over two days in Toronto.

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION

The three summit discussion programs were selected with consideration to the general interest of these topics for engineering managers and executives, educators, and the general engineering public.

Respectively, presentations will be made by some of the leading authorities in the areas of academia (Teaching Women Engineering: A Double Standard?); engineering software tools (Fruits and Pitfalls of Product Lifecycle Management [PLM]); and design (Human Factor Engineering: Designing for the User).  Download the brochure (PDF - 453 KB)

In the area of “Teaching Women Engineering,” attendees will hear from university administrators, male and female students, and professors to get an inside and honest perspective on whether they feel colleges and universities have an inherent bias against women in engineering.

In the area of “PLM,” attendees will hear from users of technology, from developers of the tools, and from analysts who will provide the insight to share best practices and lessons learned.

In the area of “human factor engineering,” the discussion will focus on fundamental design, mainly from the perspective of the user. The engineer works for the end user, and the discussion will focus on the art of successful product development as much as on the tools the engineer uses. Attendees will hear opinions on the question: Is enough human testing being conducted prior to the beginning of the design process?
