ADVANCING SKILLS FOR LEADERSHIP CHALLENGES . . . . AND
INSPIRING OTHERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
For leaders
to be successful, they need a vision, a purpose, and a set of skills
to execute a plan, including being an effective communicator and motivator
to gain the enthusiasm of others.
ASME’s vision is to be the essential resource for mechanical engineers
and other technical professionals throughout the world for solutions
that benefit humankind. It has laid out a strategic roadmap identifying
three critical areas that encompass some of the most complex challenges
facing our world: workforce development, energy, and global impact.
Our challenge as leaders
is to empower our units to identify needs within these priority areas,
and roles they can play to create solutions. Collectively, we can make
a strong impact in both local and world communities.
To rally our members, we need to be people-focused and demonstrate the
benefits of participation in ASME. This includes emphasizing career
opportunities, member services important to families, and ways for members
to help make a difference.
The ASME vision needs translation to the unit level, encouraging initiatives
that give new meaning to ASME efforts.
The
Leadership Training Conference (LTC) offers you the opportunity to witness
ASME in action, dialog with its leadership, access its resources, and,
through interactive learning and networking, recognize the power you
can bring to your unit. It is designed to inspire
your interest in the ASME vision. In the process, we
hope to energize your “can do” attitude by providing tools,
techniques and processes needed to manage activities and develop new
ideas for your unit. The lessons learned are also expected to yield
a set of competencies useful to you for effective leadership in the
workplace. ASME trusts that you will return home from the LTC excited
about ASME and the directions in which we are moving, and committed
to inspiring others. The
success of the ASME vision depends on your drive to engage members across
the Society to participate … to make a difference.
