Dr. Adrian Bejan examines Constructal Theory at 2006 IJTC
Dr. Adrian Bejan will discuss "The Constructal Theory of Generation of Flow Configuration in Nature and Engineering" at the 2006 International Joint Tribology Conference (IJTC), Oct. 23-25 at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas (USA). More...

PANEL session in Microturbomachinery
Current advancements in automotive turbochargers and midsize gas turbines implement advanced gas bearing technologies in oil-free compact units with improved efficiency. Commercial applications include portable fuel cells and microengines to midsize gas turbines (< 400 kW) for distributed power and hybrid vehicles. Deregulation in distributed power markets and stringent environmental constraints drive the needs. The panel session will present the state of the art and future for oil-free turbomachinery, thermal management in bearing supports of micro gas turbines, rotordynamic and thermodynamic issues in micro turbines; development of innovative microturbines, and the challenges for MEMS micro gas turbine engines. More...

An Invitation from The Chairman
Join Us in San Antonio for Tribology's Big Event

Dear Friends,

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), along with the Tribology Division of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), cordially invite you to participate in the International Joint Tribology Conference to be held October 23-25, 2006. at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. This meeting will bring together the best of recent research in all areas of tribology. Technical tracks have been established in the following areas:

  • Tribomaterials
  • Lubricants and Additives
  • Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication
  • Hydrodynamic Lubrication and Fluid Film Bearings
  • Rolling Element Bearings
  • Engine Tribology
  • Machine Components Tribology
  • Contact Mechanics
  • Magnetic Storage Tribology
  • Manufacturing/Metalworking Tribology
  • Nanotribology
  • Engineered Surfaces
  • Biotribology
  • Emerging Technologies

The meeting is organized around three days of technical sessions and includes four types of presentations:

  • Regular technical talks based on full-length papers submitted to one of our three cooperating journals, listed below;
  • Special symposia showcasing the most recent developments in contact mechanics;
  • Panel discussions;
  • Student posters.

In addition to the technical program, the meeting provides a forum for networking and informal exchange of ideas among participants from academia, research labs, industry and government agencies.

We are proud to have the cooperation and support of three exceptional tribology journals:

  • ASME Journal of Tribology
  • STLE Tribology Transactions
  • Tribology Letters (an STLE-endorsed journal published by Springer Media)

We also want to acknowledge the special cooperation of the Contact Mechanics Technical Committee of ASME Tribology Division in assembling the highest quality technical content.

This meeting is the latest in the long-running series of tribology conferences, dating back over 50 years, co-organized by STLE and the ASME Tribology Division. In 2005, we had a one-year break while our societies cooperated to host the very successful World Tribology Congress in Washington, DC, and now we are excited to return to the regular annual scheduling of our Fall joint conference.

Use this web site to submit your work for the conference, and please revisit the site periodically for updates as further aspects of the meeting are finalized. We also encourage you to visit the Hotel Information section of this web site for information about the Hyatt Regency and on-line hotel reservations, and also the Tour Information section for information about San Antonio, a very interesting and attractive destination. Registration Information is now available in both online and PDF formats.

We are expecting attendance and presentations from around the globe, and we sincerely hope that you will be part of this dynamic, influential and collegial gathering as the eyes of the tribology world focus on San Antonio for the 2006 International Joint Tribology Conference.
