With patients
in more than 90 countries, two blockbuster drugs lead Biogen Idec's
product lineup:
RITUXAN® (rituximab) is the world's first licensed monoclonal antibody
therapy for the treatment of certain B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas
(NHL). Additionally, RITUXAN is indicated for moderately-to-severely
active rheumatoid arthritis. The company co-promotes the product in
the United States with Genentech, Inc. Outside of the US, RITUXAN is
marketed by Roche.
AVONEX®
(interferon beta 1-a) is indicated for the treatment of patients with
relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and is the most prescribed
product in MS worldwide with over 130,000 patients on therapy.
Additionally,
TYSABRI® (natalizumab) is the first monoclonal antibody approved
for the treatment of relapsing remitting forms of MS and is currently
marketed in both Europe and the US.
Zevalin®
(ibritumomab tiuxetan) is a radioimmunotherapy for use in patients with
relapsed or refractory, low-grade, follicular B-cell NHL.
In addition
to Biogen Idec's promising portfolio of drug candidates, the company's
capabilities and capacity for protein manufacturing are world-class
in quality and scale. The company is one of a handful of biotechnology
companies that has three licensed and dedicated biological bulk-manufacturing
facilities, including its large-scale manufacturing plant in Research
Triangle Park, NC, which is one of the world's largest cell culture
facilities. An additional large-scale manufacturing plant is under construction
in Hillerød, Denmark. Biogen Idec has sufficient commercial manufacturing
capacity for its own pipeline, as well as potential partners' products.
