INTELLECTURAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL COMPETITION

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11 • 8:30 AM - 10:00 NOON

Companies in widely diverse technologies are seeing vast opportunity in emerging and high growth foreign markets such as China, India, and Eastern Europe. At the same time, many companies in those foreign jurisdictions are themselves filing for international patent protection, making it a more competitive landscape for U.S. manufacturers. Such increasing efforts of foreign manufacturers to build fences around their own product markets require concerted effort on the part of domestic manufacturers to meet such threats by strategically developing and managing a customized intellectual property portfolio that best positions them for global competitiveness. In this workshop, you will learn about how a global intellectual property strategy can be developed and implemented to ensure that innovations are best positioned to provide the company the maximum competitive leverage. Part of the discussion will include a review of the suite of intellectual property protections available (i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets) that can provide valuable tools to competitively position an innovative company.

INSULATION: THE FORGOTTEN TECHNOLOGY IN THE INDUSTRIAL, COMMERCIAL, HVAC AND MECHANICAL SEGMENTS OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11 • 10:30 AM - 12:00 NOON

There has never been a more important time to think about insulation differently. You may think you have heard this story before, but now you can get the “rest of the story.” Did you know that insulation is applied but rarely “engineered” and it is estimated that 10% - 30% of all installed mechanical insulation is damaged or missing? Insulation is an innovative and proven, but forgotten technology that can provide an unrivaled return on your investment whether it is in the new construction or maintenance arenas. In this session, you will learn about the evidence supporting the “power of insulation” for energy conservation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, process control, employee and life safety, sustainable design, condensation control, mold prevention. The session also includes a review of a comprehensive energy management software program utilized by the Department of Energy’s Industrial Technology Program. All session attendees will receive a copy. The session will conclude with an overview of some innovative initiatives and products -- systems in the mechanical insulation industry, including nanotechnology and non-destructive testing methods …and others.
