The SMASIS Student Events Committee has planned several activities for students attending the SMASIS Conference. The activities are designed to increase awareness of quality scholarly research, promote interaction with members from the scientific community (industry and academia), and provide a mechanism to develop long term social and professional relationships with fellow students. The events include:

Student Haunted Tour
The students are invited to explore Philly by night! A Haunted Trolley Tour has been arranged to take students through Philadelphia’s historic streets to unearth the mysterious legends and dark secrets of the city on Wednesday September 29th. The tour will allow students to socialize and interact on the bus while enjoying a few “haunting” historical tales. Students can sign up and get details at the conference registration counter (space is limited). Please meet in the hotel lobby. Buses will leave promptly at 8:00 pm and return approximately at 10:00 pm. Special thanks to NSF for sponsoring this event.

Student Mentoring Luncheon
During our Networking Lunch on September 29, from12:30 PM – 2:00 PM, students will be given the opportunity to have lunch with professionals from academia, government, and industry. During the lunch, students will be grouped with mentors who can answer questions and provide guidance in taking the right steps leading to a rewarding and successful future career. Students will be seated at reserved tables during the luncheon. Lunch will be held in Ormandy West.

Smart Trivia
Participate in a Spiritedly Memorable Amazingly Riveting non-Technical (SMART) trivia lunch led by the Students and Young Professional Symposium. Participants are encouraged to form multicultural, inter-generational teams by sitting at the same lunch table. A quizmaster will guide the teams through a multi-round “Phily Pub” style trivia competition which covers a wide array of non-technical topics.
