The ASME Rail Transportation Division is pleased to announce that the 2012 Fall Technical Conference will be held with a special meeting called the "RTD Data Management Symposium."


The 6th Annual ASME Rail Transportation Division, Fall Technical Conference (FTC) will be held in Omaha NE, USA on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 16-17, 2012.


You are invited to submit technical papers for presentation and discussion at the 2012 ASME Rail Transportation Fall Conference. Papers are solicited from members of the railway supply industry, rail transportation companies and transit agencies, governmental agencies, consulting/engineering firms, academia, technical organizations and others. Papers should cover a topic of current industry interest. Topics may include, but are not limited to:


  • Positive Train Control / Communications-Based Train Control
  • High Speed Rail
  • Track and Equipment Health Monitoring
  • ECP Brakes
  • Passenger Equipment Crashworthiness
  • Innovations in Tank Cars
  • Heavy Axle Load Performance Issues
  • Materials and Failure Analysis of Track and Equipment Components
  • Locomotive and Freight Car Improvements
  • New or Improved Mechanical Components
  • Vehicle / Track Interaction
  • System Safety and Emergency Preparedness
  • Infrastructure and Capacity Enhancements


The abstract due date is May 18, 2012. Advanced conference registration is required for the lead authors of papers, before final acceptance of papers for publication. The ASME Rail Transportation Division is pleased to announce the RTD Data Management Symposium that will be held in conjunction with the 6th annual ASME Rail Transportation Division Fall Conference in Omaha NE. The regular RTD Fall Technical Conference will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 16-17, 2012.
The RTD Data Management Symposium will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012.


The one day symposium is intended to focus on the growing data management and analysis needs in the rail industry.


You are invited to submit technical papers for presentation and discussion. The following data management topics are intended for the symposium, but not limited to:


  • Wayside and monitoring system data generation and management
  • PTC data management and utilization
  • Vehicle and track inspection systems
  • Rules engines, decision making, and alerts/alarms
  • Risk analysis and prediction
  • Enterprise data management
  • Data presentation methodologies
  • GIS data utilization
  • Asset data management
  • Machine vision data management and analysis
  • User interfaces for field staff
  • Performance monitoring and trending
 
  • Innovative uses of data for increased efficiency and safety
  • Work management and work orders
  • Data warehouses, data mining, reports, research, and techniques
  • Real-time data techniques, mirroring, single-source, data acquisition, time-critical reporting, and reports
  • Integration of data, design, and benefits
  • Data formats and communication protocols
  • Database designs and best practices for speed, storage, special data types, and centralized vs. distributed designs
  • Statistical and filtering techniques, distributed processing
  • Data sharing and interchange between departments, railroads, and suppliers
  • Sensor data such as onboard, wayside, barcode/RFID, PTC, etc...
  • Mesh networks
  • Computer Aided Dispatching
