This one-day ASME course covers the fundamentals of steam turbine design, thermal cycle, performance, operation and maintenance. Although steam turbine design theory is presented, the course will be very practical in nature, geared to individuals without prior knowledge or experience with steam turbines. The course is perfect for new turbine engineers responsible for the steam turbine as well as a refresher for the more seasoned steam turbine engineer. This course would also be helpful for the generator engineers and department level managers wanting to understand the fundamentals of the steam turbine. The course will conclude with an hour-long panel discussion on more advanced aspects of steam turbine and operating experiences. Although the title states for "mechanical engineers" the course is open to all who need a good understanding of steam turbines. Key features of the course will include: |
What is a Power Steam Turbine?
- Historical Development
- Power Plant Configuration
- Applications and Support Systems
How does a Power Steam Turbine work?
- Thermodynamic Principles
- Steam Turbine Design
- Components and Features
How to operate a Power Steam Turbine?
- Start-up, Load, and Shut-down
- Transient Operations
- Testing and Performance
How to maintain a Power Steam Turbine?
- Inspection
- Preventive Maintenance
- Repair \ Refurbishment
- Assembly Practices
The course participant will receive course notes and have ample time to discuss problems they may be experiencing with their own units.
