To register for the Forum, please go to: http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaid=185053
The early career forum (ECF) is designed as a professional development and networking event for early career engineers (ECEs). Early career engineers are professionals who are thirty-five years of age or younger and have up to 10 years of work experience. At this ECF, participants will learn the resources ASME provides to ECEs, opportunities for green jobs, and techniques to maintain employability in these tough economic times. Justin Young, Vice President of Affinity Communities at ASME, will share his experiences as an early career engineer and provide tips for leveraging ASME to build your own career. Marlene Brown, an engineer with nearly 20 years of experience in photovoltaics at Sandia National Laboratories, will share her expertise on green jobs in the solar industry. Shane Barber, Performance Consultant for Intel University and member of the Technology and Manufacturing Group at Intel Corporation, will provide an interactive workshop on how to develop and advance your career.
Leveraging ASME To Build Your Career
How often do you think about the future? Do you think about what you will be doing in 5 or 10 years? Do you imagine yourself getting promoted, making more money, or even retiring early? Did anyone ever tell you that it will take considerable effort to achieve these things? Being a successful engineer requires a surprising amount of hard work, career planning, and professional development. Come learn about one engineer's journey through his early career and how he leveraged ASME to develop leadership and organizational skills, technical competency, helped improve the engineering profession, and developed a huge network of contacts. He will share his secrets so you can do it too!
Justin Young
Vice President, Affinity Communities at ASME
Justin Young has been an active member of ASME for over ten years including serving as Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, and Webmaster in Sections in Arizona and Nevada as well as the Young Engineer Correspondents Affinity Group. He is currently serving as the Vice President overseeing the growth of ASME's Affinity Communities. Justin recently delivered 3 1/2 hours of training on Section and Affinity Group Operations and was the co-developer on several other sessions at the Leadership Training Conference in Los Angeles this March. Justin has served on numerous ASME boards, committees, and task forces and mentored countless Early Career Engineers within ASME's volunteer corps.
In his free time Justin is a project engineer delivering solutions to meet challenging structural and electrical flight test requirements at Denmar Technical Services. In 1998 he received his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Arizona University and in 2007 completed a Master of Business Administration at Keller University.
What is a Green Job Anyway?
This talk will be about Green Jobs in solar. We'll discuss the definition of a "green job" and how to go about getting one. We'll also look at some of the new initiatives around the country concerning "green jobs" including NM Governor Richardson's "Green Jobs Cabinet". Come with an open mind and questions. If you are looking for a green job, then you will not want to miss this talk.
