Rio is located in southeast Brazil. As one of Brazil's major cities, it is an international and domestic transport hub so is well connected to the rest of the country by its extensive road network system and to the world by its airports.
There are two major airports in Rio: Santos Dumont, which caters for domestic flights, and Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (better known as Galeão International Airport), which services international flights.
The Galeão International Airport is located on Ilha do Governador which has excellent access to Rio's south zone where OMAE 2012 (and most of the major hotels) are located. The airport is served by 28 international carriers as well as the three major Brazilian airlines and between them they offer direct flights to-and-from more than 80 international cities and most of the major Brazilian centers of population.
An efficient taxi and bus service links the international airport with the main hotels and residential areas.
