| Conference Workshop: Deepwater Pre-Salt Reservoirs! |
|
OMAE 2012 will feature the "Pre-Salt Technologies Workshop: Challenges and Opportunities" on July 3rd and 4th as part of the conference. Admission to the workshop is included with full conference registration.
The recent discovery of the Pre-Salt Reservoirs in deepwater off the shores of Brazil have doubled the country's proven oil reserves. The Pre-Salt region includes an offshore area of 800km by 200km within the Brazilian economic exclusive zone which shows good promise for a substantial amount of oil and gas extraction. An immediate result is the expansion of the oil & gas industry in Brazil. Supply companies are establishing offices, manufacturing facilities and research centers to benefit from and contribute to the find in the new Pre-Salt Reservoirs.

The 31st OMAE in Rio de Janeiro.
The New Technological Frontier: Deepwater Pre-Salt Reservoirs!
The 31st International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE 2012) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Join your colleagues from industry, academia and government from July 1-6, 2012.
OMAE 2012 is the ideal forum for researchers, engineers, managers, technicians and students from the scientific and industrial communities from around the world to meet and present advances in technology and its scientific support; to exchange ideas and experiences whilst promoting technological progress and its application in industry; and to promote international cooperation in ocean, offshore and arctic engineering. Following on the tradition of excellence of previous OMAE conferences, more than 800 technical papers are planned for presentation.
Technical Program
Our program will follow the tradition of excellence standard in all previous
OMAE conferences. Your host COPPE/UFRJ is pleased to announce two special events that will take place during OMAE 2012. The following 11 standard symposia plus 2 special symposia are planned:
Conference Workshops:

Workshop/Special Session on Verification & Validation (V&V): Attendees are invited to participate in this Symposium-8-10 V&V Workshop on CFD for Offshore Flows by providing computations for one or more of three test cases. With the results, Code Verification, Solution Verification and Solution Validation will be performed following modern V&V techniques. The participants can submit papers with the results of each exercise to this workshop special session (following the usual OMAE rules) and the results to the organization for the final comparison V&V analysis. The OMAE2012 Conference will move 3 weeks later and now be held July 1-6, 2012, at the same venue, the Windsor Barra in Rio.
Due to the recent rescheduling of a United Nations Sustainability Conference (55,000+ attendees) in Rio de Janeiro in close proximity to the original date of the OMAE 2012 conference, the OOAE Executive Committee announced a change in the date of their flagship conference.
The Committee regrets the necessity of this move, but due to the strain on the Rio transportation system and acts of the Brazilian government with respect to accommodations, there was no option but to delay the conference.
Thanks for your support of the OMAE conference! We welcome you to Rio and hope you will enjoy this beautiful city in its normal daily life.
