It is necessary to use an OV-chipcard to travel in Rotterdam. Please see
more information about this transportation below:
The OV-chipcard is a plastic card that has an invisible
chip inside that can be loaded with credit in euros or with a travel product,
such as a single or season ticket. This chipcard allows you to travel
anywhere within the Netherlands. The two types of OV-chipcard that are
applicable to visitors are anonymous and disposable.
Both cards allow the holder to travel immediately.
The anonymous OV-chipcard allows you to travel in complete
anonymity because it does not require registration of your personal data
by the public transport companies. This card can be reloaded with any
amount or travel product and is valid for approximately 4 to 5 years.
This type of chipcard can be bought at the ticket office and vending machines
at the station. Age related discounts, such as senior and child, are not
applicable on this card.
The disposable OV-chipcard are pre-loaded with the value
of a predetermined period of validity (a specific number of days or journeys).
These chipcards cannot be reloaded. They are used for single trips or
for a predetermined short-term trip, such as a 3-day ticket. The disposable
OV-chipcard can be purchased at the station vending machine.
Please note: Every Netherlands Railway (NS) season ticket
holder can use the ticket as an OV-Chipcard, as indicated by the "OV-Chipkaart"
logo. Valid only at locations where the OV-Chipcard has been registered.
