Enter ASME's NanoVenture 2006 Competition! The winner will receive a beautiful NanoVenture trophy, a framed winner's certificate and national press coverage. All contestants will have the opportunity to pitch their businesses to an accomplished panel of Venture Capitalists, Entrepreneurs, Scientists, and an audience of investors.
Executive summary submissions are due by August 30, 2006. Please submit your executive summary and the following information to Cindy Matsuki.
- Valid email address.
- Full name and contact information.
- Your executive summary (2-3 pages) in PDF format.
The NanoVenture Competition Panel will review and select the finalists who will be notified of their acceptance. The finalists will then need to register for the NanoVenture Competition by September 8, 2006. Registered finalists will be teamed up with professional coaches to help polish their executive summaries and presentations in preparation for the September 21st competition.
If you are selected as a finalist, please prepare a 15 minute presentation based on the 10 areas of the required executive summary.
10 Areas to Cover in Your Executive Summary
1. Objective: What is your objective, what are you after?
2. Mission: A short "elevator" pitch that describes your company in a couple of sentences. Who you are? What is your product/service? How will you reach your market (business model)? When will the return on investment be realized (exit strategy)?
3. Value Proposition: What is the problem you are solving? What is the market opportunity, how big? What evidence do you have of strong demand?
4. Solution/Benefits: What is your solution to the problem? How will your customer benefit?
5. Technology/Intellectual Property: What strengths does your team have? What patents on products or methods make your idea a better mousetrap?
6. Competition/Competitive Advantage: Who is your competition and why you are better than them? What barriers to entry will you construct?
7. Success Metrics: What milestones will you meet that demonstrate progress in achieving your objective? How does your business scale? What are comparable companies doing? What valuation do you give your company? What are your key financial assumptions?
8. Team: Who are your key team members and why do you have what it takes to implement the plan and achieve your goal?
9. Why You?: Why is your business going to make it? What are the risks and how will you mitigate those risks?
10. Exit Strategy: How much money do you need? What have you done with the money you've spent to date and what are you going to use the dollars you are raising for?
Key Dates and Deadlines
August 30, 2006: 2-3 page Executive Summary due to Cindy Matsuki.
September 8, 2006: Registration deadline. Submit entry fee of $450.
September 8, 2006: Finalists are paired with a coaching team. Submit presentation and executive summary to coaches for feedback.
September 15, 2006: Final presentations and name of presenters due to Cindy Matsuki.
September 21, 2006: NanoVenture Competition 2006 in Honolulu, Hawaii!
