Tour #1 – Tuesday, August 10

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway
Chantilly, VA 20151


Visit 163 aircraft and 154 large space artifacts, along with more than 1,500 smaller objects, on display in the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia. Artifacts at the center are displayed in open hangar settings rather than exhibition galleries. Space history artifacts include armament missiles and rockets used in earth atmosphere.

Tour #2 – Tuesday, August 10

NIST- National Institute of Standards and Technology
Gaithersburg, Maryland


Come see how the National Institute of Standards and Technology promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life. You'll see the large-scale fire research facility, the nanofluids heat transfer laboratory, the flow calibration facilities, and other laboratories
related to the thermal sciences.


Tour will consist of 15 minutes per lab with 5 minutes to travel from lab to lab.
Participants must wear close-toed shoes and long pants.

Tour #3 – Tuesday, August 10
2:00p.m. – 6:00p.m*


U.S. Naval Academy
Annapolis, Maryland


Visit the outstanding educational facilities for engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy for course instruction and research by midshipmen and faculty. The Naval Academy graduates officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corp. The mission statement of the Naval Academy is "To develop Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government."


Tour limited to 50 people


Attendees must bring a government issued photo ID, such as a passport. US
Citizens may bring a drivers license.

Tour #4 – Tuesday, August 10
2:00p.m. – 6:00p.m*


University of Maryland
College Park, Maryland


Tour the thermofluids laboratories at UMD. The labs to be visited are the Combustion Engineering Lab (Gupta), Heat Pump Lab (Radermacher), Small and Smart Thermal Systems Lab (Ohadi), Micro/Nanoscale Heat Transfer and Energy Conversion Lab (Yang), Ballard Power Systems Fuel Cell Lab (Jackson), Thermal Packaging of Photonics and Electronic Systems Lab (Bar-Cohen), and the Phase Change Heat Transfer Lab (Kim). About 20 minutes will be spent in each of the laboratories.
