| Information below is an overall summary of the various special events
and functions taking place during this year’s conference.
AWARDS LUNCHES
*One Awards Lunch is included with every FULL Registration. When registering,
please be sure to check which lunch you would like to attend. You have
the option to add multiple quantities and/or multiple lunches but you
will be charged $30 for each additional.
MR Lunch – Monday (12:30pm – 2:00pm)
This luncheon will include awards presentations for the Mechanisms and
Robotics Conference
CIE Lunch – Monday (12:30pm – 2:00pm)
This luncheon will include awards presentations for the Computers and
Information in Engineering Conference / Division
DED Lunch – Tuesday (12:30pm – 2:30pm)
This luncheon will include awards presentations for Design Engineering
Division as well as conference related awards from the following: International
Conference on Advanced Vehicle and Tire Technologies (AVTT), Design
Automation Conference (DAC), Symposium on International Design and Design
Education (DEC), Design for Manufacturing and the Lifecycle Conference
(DFMLC), International Conference on Design Theory and Methodology (DTM),
the International Conference on Micro- and Nanosystems (MNS), and the
Special Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise (VIB).
RECEPTIONS

McGill University Tour/Reception - Sunday (3:30pm –
6:30pm) Tour begins upon arrival. Reception begins at approximately 5:00pm
McGill University is one of Canada’s best-known institutions of
higher learning and one of the country’s leading research-intensive
universities. With students coming to McGill from about 150 countries,
the student body is the most internationally diverse of any medical-doctoral
university in Canada. The Centre for Intelligent Machines (CIM) includes
a research program expressed around four themes designed to reflect the
rapid evolution of the sector of Intelligent Systems:
- artificial perception
- robotics
- systems and control
- human-machine interface

Buses will begin departing the hotel at 3:45pm and proceed to the downtown campus to CIM's headquarters at the McConnell Engineering Building of McGill University. Following the tour, Dean Christophe Pierre will host a reception
for attendees in the lobby of the Trottier Building. Entertainment and
food will be provided.
*Note this function is included in the registration fee for all Registrants,
however you must confirm your participation on the registration form.
Conference Reception (at Marche Bonsecours) - Monday
(time tba)
The Bonsecours Market is located right in the heart of Montreal. With
a spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River, Old Port and some of Old
Montreal’s most striking historic treasures, this venue is considered
one of the finest heritage buildings in Canada. Join your fellow attendees
in a short bus ride to Old Montreal. Enjoy traditional Canadian hors d’oeurves
and drinks. All attendees will then have the opportunity to walk around
the city and enjoy the fabulous views and culture before returning back
to the hotel for the evening.
*Note this function is included in the registration fee for Full, Student
and Life Registrants. One Day Registrants and guests will need to purchase
a ticket for $50.
CIE 30th and JCISE 10th Anniversary Reception - Tuesday
(6:30pm - 8:00pm)
CIE (Computers and Information in Engineering) Division will celebrate
its 30th Anniversary, together with JCISE's 10th Anniversary. This is
not an event to just look back into the past, but also to look ahead into
the future. The future CIE leaders will make poster presentations on their
current research. This is a mixer type event with food and drink. So we
hope this will serve as an excellent opportunity for everybody to develop
networking across different domains and across all ages. All conference
registrants are welcome.
*Note this function is geared primarily for CIE attendees/authors. This
event is included in the registration fee, however Guests/spouses of attendees
will need to purchase a ticket for $40.
Student Networking Reception - Tuesday (6:30pm –
8:00pm )
The ASME Design Engineering Division’s Student Affairs and Early
Career Professionals Committee will host the Scavenger Hunt for student
attendees. This activity will end with the Student Networking Reception
to be held on Tuesday evening.

10th Anniversary Celebration Reception for JCISE (Journal of Computing & Information Science in Engineering) - Tuesday (6:30pm to 8:00pm)
All those who have contributed to the success of JCISE are invited to join us, to be recognized and to celebrate. This includes all current and former associate editors, reviewers, authors and members of the advisory board.
TOURS
Ecole de Technologie Superieure (ETS) Tour – Sunday
(1:45pm – 3:45pm)
École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), with its 5400
students, is one of the five largest engineering schools and faculties
in Canada, and accounts for a quarter of all Quebec undergraduate engineering
students. ÉTS stands out because of its focus on applied engineering
and its close ties with industry. ÉTS is well known for its student-run
technical clubs, particularly Walking Machine, Baja SAE, S.O.N.I.A. and
Omer. Representatives of these clubs will present some their latest creations.
The tour will also include a visit of an undergraduate robotics laboratory,
featuring four industrial robots ABB
IRB1600 and one FlexPicker.
Finally, the Control
and Robotics (CoRo) research laboratory, headed by Prof. Ilian Bonev,
will demonstrate several of its parallel robot prototypes, as well as
its precision robotics laboratory, featuring an industrial robot, a laser
tracker, a laser interferometer and other metrology equipment. For more

Canadian Space Agency Tour – Wednesday (8:00am
– 12:00pm)
Our guides are scientists, engineers and communicators who are passionate
about what Canada is doing in space. When you visit the John H. Chapman
Space Centre, you will have a chance to see full-size and scale models
of various projects, our mission control centre and robotics training
simulator, some of the CSA's current R&D projects, and more.
*Note this function is NOT included in the conference registration fee.
All attendees have the option of adding this to their registration for
$10. Note, a passport is required to participate in this tour. You will
not be able to register without including your passport number.
