Paper Types

Technical Publication

A technical publication is a full-length, peer-reviewed paper that is accepted for presentation at a technical session and publication in the conference proceedings. Requires an abstract upon submittal for consideration; if accepted, a draft and final paper are required.
Length: No more than 10 pages (fully formatted, two-column, 8.5 x 11 in. pages)

Student Competition Paper

For a paper to be considered for a student competition, the author must explicitly declare it by selecting "Student Competition Paper" on the ASME submission tool at the time of submission. General restrictions apply. Please see "Student Competitions" for details, specific restrictions and requirements may apply. Please note, not all sub-conferences offer student paper competitions.

To be eligible for the student paper competition, the student must appear as the first and presenting author of the paper. The student must also be a registered student at the time of paper submission, and cannot enter more a single paper into this competition. The students may however appear as authors and/or coauthors on multiple non-student competition papers.

NOTE: Each sub-conference offering a student paper competition is responsible for its own competition's review, selection, and awards process. For further details please see specific Student Competition Paper requirements associated with the individual conferences, and note that the individual sub-conference Student Paper Competition regulations supersede the general guidelines provided here. If the conference to which the Student Competition Paper is submitted does not have a student competition, then the paper will be treated as a regular technical paper."
