Publication Policy

The ASME Internal Combustion Engine Division (ICED) Executive Committee would like to remind all authors about our new publication policy, which has been in effect since 2006. Once your paper has been peer reviewed and accepted for publication in the conference proceedings, all authors are responsible for ensuring that the designated "presenter" identified in the website has registered for the conference and paid the appropriate registration fee by the established deadline of Friday, February 29, 2008. In addition, presenting authors must secure travel funding and apply for any required travel documents well in advance of the conference to ensure that you meet your obligation to present the paper at the conference.

All authors are advised that if the identified presenter has not registered by the established deadline:

  • The paper will not be published in the proceedings.
  • The presentation information will be removed from the conference website and the final conference printed program.

Exceptions to this advance author registration requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis, by e-mail request only, to the Technical Chair of the conference: Stephen Ciatti, sciatti@anl.gov. The deadline for submission of requests is Friday, February 22. Requests for author registration fee reimbursements due to paper cancellation will only be considered on or prior to the established deadline.

The ASME ICED Executive Committee views the final step of attending the conference and presenting your technical work as a critical part of the exchange and dissemination of technical information. When a presenting author does not show up at a conference to present their paper, all of the paper's authors, their home organizations, and ASME ICED lose credibility within the engine profession. Conference attendees expect each and every paper identified in the technical program to be presented. Moreover, "no show" presenters put session organizers and the next presenting author in a difficult position because your time slot must be held open in order to maintain the conference schedule.

Please note that the ASME ICED Executive Committee maintains a record of papers that are not presented at each conference, including the names of all authors and their home organizations. Authors and organizations appearing on the list may have additional conditions imposed before their papers are accepted for publication at one of our future conferences. Of course, we will always take into consideration any exceptional last minute circumstance that prevents an author from presenting his paper.

The ASME ICED Executive Committee wishes to thank all authors, in advance, for supporting our publication policy. We are confident that this policy will help us to produce high-quality technical conferences that promote the art and science of mechanical engineering of engines, encourage and foster research and development for mobile, marine, rail, generation and stationary applications, and provide reliable data concerning these pursuits.
