Travel/Transportation

Lucerne, Switzerland is the site of the 2009 Internal Combustion Engine Fall Technical Conference. Although Lucerne does not have an airport, the proximity of the Zürich International Airport makes Lucerne very accessible. The train station at the Zürich airport is located directly below the arrival area. The train schedule can be found on the webpage http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm. The train ticket cost each way is CHF 38.00 and CHF 27.00 for first and second class tickets respectively. Please note that Zurich has two train stations, one at the airport (Zurich Flughafen) and the second one is the main station (Zurich HB). Additional helpful information can be found in the attachment.

After arriving at the train station in Lucerne, exit the main entrance located at the street level. Buses are located to the far left of the arch in front of the station. Look for arrival times for buses number 6 or 8 which are displayed on the small screens at the bus stop. A CHF 2.00 ticket is required to ride the bus. To get a ticket from the machine at the bus stop, press the button "Kurzstrecke" (max. 6 bus stops) for the short trip, insert a CHF 2.00 coin (or multiple coins), and the ticket is printed. Each time you ride the bus and leave the bus, you need to buy a ticket. The bus stops in front of the building (apartments) adjacent to the hotel and the bus stop is called "Europe". The webpage for the bus schedule is www.vbl.ch (only in German). However, the bus schedule from the train station to the hotel and vise versa is attached.

Regardless of which means of transportation you choose, it takes about 10 minutes to reach the hotel. A taxi from the train station in Lucerne to the hotel will cost approximately CHF 17.00.

Lucerne is approximately 60 km from the Zürich Airport and the drive to Lucerne takes approximately 1 hour.
