Tours of Cummins MerCruiser Diesel and Robert Bosch LLC
The technical tours are scheduled on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 and will visit both Cummins MerCruiser Diesel and Robert Bosch facilities located in Charleston, South Carolina. The tours will start at 7:30 a.m. and the return to the hotel will be at 1:00 p.m.
Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD)
CMD is a Joint Venture between Cummins, Inc. and Mercury Marine with a long term vision to provide boat builders with a complete integrated system for vessel propulsion, power generation, controls and information for diesel engines. The combination of products, services, and expertise is unique in the diesel marine industry. The tour will visit the CMD manufacturing facility as well as the one-of-a-kind Marine Technical Center adjacent to the CMD main 80,000 square foot manufacturing facility. The tour of the manufacturing facility will cover the Marinization process, the in process verification station and accessory kitting area. Engines that are marinized range from 220 - 715 HP with over 1300 engine options available. The Tech Center is a 33,000 square foot highly advanced center which houses engine test cells and a team of the industry most talented engineers who lead the design, new product development, electronics, and vessel integration programs. Robert Bosch LLC
Robert Bosch has been in business since 1886, and has had a presence in the United States since 1906. The United States has played a vital role in Bosch's history. Bosch USA has three corporate divisions consisting of North American Automotive Technology, Consumer Goods and Building Technology, and the Industrial Technology. The Charleston, South Carolina plant is part of the Automotive Technology division. It manufactures gasoline fuel systems, diesel fuel systems and anti-lock braking systems. The tour will cover only the diesel components including the common rail injector, pump and rail as well as the unit injectors.
