Tour of the Union Pacific Roseville Rail Yard
The technical tour will visit the Union Pacific Roseville Rail Yard, located northeast of Sacramento, California. The Roseville Rail Yard is the largest rail facility on the West Coast. Tour participant will have an opportunity to see various diesel-electric locomotives in process of being inspected and repaired, including turbocharger and power assembly replacement. Typical components will be on display to illustrate the size and scope of North American locomotive diesel engines. Possible display items include a 2006-model EPA Tier 2 locomotive and a prototype switcher ultra-low emission locomotive featuring twin Cummins QSX19G diesel-alternator gensets for motive power.
This facility is a working rail yard with many train and engine movements in, through and around the yard all the time. Transportation within the yard property will be onboard the buses for safety and convenience of participants. Union Pacific will provide Personal Protection Equipment (hard hat, eye shields, hearing plugs) but visitors will be required to wear leather shoes with a definite heel (no sandals, high heels, canvas shoes, bare feet, etc.).
