Focus of the Panel Discussions -- ICE Spring 2006 Conference
Discussions focused on the following points throughout the session:


  • Railroad industry and impact of diesel exhaust emission regulations
  • Diesel locomotive and engine manufacturers have growing global reach:
    • US locomotive and engine manufacturer sales into Europe
    • European engine manufacturer sales into the USA
    • Recently significant US locomotive sales orders for China
  • Diesel locomotive exhaust emission regulations are fully established in the USA
  • UIC limit value recommendations for exhaust emissions
    • “Effectively” regulations
    • Soon be superseded by formal EC regulations
    • UIC limits currently “the standard” for most new diesel locomotive orders
      • Extends to many countries outside of the EU
