Karl Föger, Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFCL)
Dr Karl Föger is one of the founders of Ceramic Fuel Cells Ltd (incorporated in 1992) and has managed the development of CFCL's technology from the beginning as member of the Executive Management Team. In his current role as Chief Technology Officer is responsible for corporate technology and product strategy including CFCL's technology roadmap, advises the CEO and Board on technical matters, manages CFCL's extensive IP portfolio.
He obtained a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Innsbruck University in Austria. In 1975 he joined CSIRO where he held various research and management positions (from 1975 to 1999) culminating in his appointment as Chief Research Scientist.
Dr Föger is a Fellow of the Australian Chemical Institute, a Member of the American Ceramic Society and Adjunct Professor of RMIT University. He is Australia's representative on the IEA Fuel Cell Annex and a Board Member of the European Fuel Cell Forum.
He is internationally recognised in the fields of fuel cells and catalysis and has served on the scientific/technical organising committee of a number of international conferences. He has published over 150 papers including several extensive reviews and bookchapters and holds 6 patents. His current scientific interests include fuel cells, energy technologies, nanotechnologies, catalysis and alternative fuels, materials processing and ceramic fabrication.

Raffaele Liberali was born and educated in Rome, where he obtained a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After different experiences in industry, he joined the European Commission in 1978, where he first worked as Scientific officer in Directorate-General " Energy ". He has subsequently worked in Directorates-General " Credit and Investments ", " Personnel and Administration " and, since 1996, Directorate-General " Research " .
In October 2006, he was appointed Director for "Energy" within the Directorate-General "Research". In this position he is in charge of the implementation of the Non-Nuclear Energy priority of the 7th Framework Programme, as well as the definition of political priorities and the coordination with Member States and research/industrial stakeholders in the field of non-nuclear energy technologies (SET-PLAN). Rolf Johan Rosenberg is coordinator of the fuel cell research programme of VTT, member of the National Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes) fuel cell program steering group and a member of the board of the Fuel Cell Finland industry group. As a member of the board of European Research Grouping (N.ERGHY), with responsibility for stationary applications, he participates in the strategic and annual planning of the European FCH JU programmes. He is coordinator of the EU Integrated Project Large-SOFC. He is the alternate representant of Finland in the IEA Advanced Fuel Cell Implementation Agreement Executive Committee and the subtask leader in the Stationary Applications Annex.

Detlef Stolten studied metallurgy/ceramics at and later received his PhD from the University of Technology at Clausthal/Germany. He worked for over 10 years in the industry as a scientist first with the Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart and then with Daimler Benz/Dornier, Friedrichshafen. Since 1998 he has been with the Juelich Research Center as the Director of the Institute for Energy - Fuel Cells. Two years later he became a full professor for Fuel Cell Technology at the University of Technology Aachen, Germany. His research activities are focused on energy process engineering for DMFC, HT-PEFC and SOFC systems, i.e. electrochemistry, stack technology, reforming process and systems engineering as well as systems analysis. Fostering the cooperation between research and industry he was in charge of the NRW - Fuel Cell.
Network from 2000 through 2005. He is a Member of the Board of the Research Association of Electrochemistry (AGEF) in Germany. He represents Germany in the Executive Committee of the IEA Annex Advanced Fuel Cells and has been a member of the Advisory Council of the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform and its Implementation Panel since 2004. He chaired the Steering Panel for the Strategic Research Agenda of the Platform and was chairman of the Quality Assurance Panel for the Implementation Plan. Being a member of the Technology/Engineering Working Group he has been contributing to the GROCC (Global Roundtable on Climate Change), Columbia University, New York since 2005. He represents the Helmholtz-Community within the advisory board of the 'Programmgesellschaft Nationale Organisation Wasserstoff- und Brennstoffzellentechnologie GmbH (NOW)', the major agency for project funding of the German Federal Ministries for Transport, Economics and Research. He chaired the 4. Deutschen Wasserstoff Congress 2008 and will be chairman of the WHEC 2010, taking place in Essen.

Manfred Bischoff studied Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart. He graduated with a PhD at the same University in 1984 and subsequently joined a paper making company where he was involved in the development of automotive filter papers. In 1989 he joined the MCFC group of Messerschmidt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) which later was taken over by MTU. He has been working since then continuously on the development and commercialization of the MCFC technology. He has published a number of articles and is a member of the American Electrochemical Society. For many years he has been participating in the activities of the IEA Annex XVII working group (MCFC towards Commercialization).

Birte Holst Jørgensen, Nordic Energy Research
Birte Holst Jørgensen is Director of Nordic Energy Research, a 25 year old Nordic energy research cooperation agency under the Nordic Council of Ministers (www.nordicenergy.net). She holds a M.Sc. in Business Economics from Copenhagen Business School and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen. She is an acknowledged expert and reviewer at the EU Commission and several Nordic research councils and research funding institutions.
Prior to her affiliation to Nordic Energy Research in 2005, Birte Holst Jørgensen was a Senior Scientist at Risø DTU where she specialised in science, technology and innovation policies, in particular in new energy technologies. Previous work experiences also include positions in private and public consultancy companies as well as a 3-year assignment at the Technical University of Ecuador.

Vladimir Fateev (master degree in Chemistry of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1974, Professor in Physical Chemistry in 1997) is Director of Hydrogen Energy and Plasma Technology Institute of RRC "Kurchatov institute". His major interests are addressed to hydrogen energy and fuel cells including nanotechnologies and nanomaterials applied in these fields and especially nanostructured catalysts and membranes.
He is head of Electrochemical and Fuel Cell sections of Councils of Russian Academy of Sciences, Member of Working Party on Electrochemical Engineering of European Federation of Chemical Engineering, co-chairman of Education Working Group of International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy. He is a lecturer (professor) at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (Technical University).

Dr. P Sridhar, Scientist, Central Electrochemical Research Institute(CECRI) - Madras Unit, CSIR Madras Complex, Chennai is engaged in the development of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane based Fuel Cell Technologies. He obtained his Ph.D degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1981. After serving in Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi for a brief period, he worked at R & D centre of Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Limited, Tuticorin during 1984 - 1990. He developed processes for recovery of metals from spent catalysts and recovery of acid from cation exchange effluent. He worked at SPIC Science Foundation, Chennai during 1990-2004 in the development of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell Technology. He was associated in establishing PEFC test facilities at various laboratories in India and abroad. He has guided three students for their Ph.D degree and presently four students have registered for their Ph.D. degree. He has to his credit 14 patents and 35 papers in international journals.

Dr. Vasile Stanciu studied Physical-Chemistry at University "Babes-Bolyai" of Cluj-Napoca. He received a PhD on " The separation of gases by selective adsorption" from the University "Babes-Bolyai" of Cluj-Napoca. He is Senior Researcher, First Degree. During is professional career, he has been actively involved in research projects carried out under Romanian Research Programmes. Currently, he is President of Scientific Council of ICIT Rm. Valcea. He has experience in the research work regarding: production of heavy water by isotopic exchange H2O-H2S and distillation under vacuum; separation and purification of hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, neon; separation of CO2/CH4 from landfill gases; development of new environmental materials and process technologies. He is currently the coordinator of ICIT research projects of National Plan regarding hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and a stationary applications. He has published over 50 papers in his expertise fields. About 60 communications in scientific events, 3 patents and 4 technologies were homologated. Also, he was Participant/ Delegate of Romania in the (former) Mirror Group of the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform and authorized representative of Secretary of State - President of National Authority for Scientific Research at HY-CO ERA-NET Consortium. He is currently responsible for the development of hydrogen and fuel cell policy and programmes in the Romanian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Platform.

Subhash Singhal, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)
Dr. Singhal is a Battelle Fellow and Director, Fuel Cells at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in the United States. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. At PNNL, Dr. Singhal provides senior technical, managerial, and commercialization leadership to the Laboratory's extensive fuel cell program. Prior to joining PNNL in 2000, Dr. Singhal worked at Siemens/Westinghouse for almost 30 years
where he was responsible for the development of high temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) for stationary power generation. In this role, he led an internationally recognized group in the SOFC technology and brought this technology from a few-watt laboratory curiosity to fully-integrated 200 kW size power generation systems. Dr. Singhal is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the Washington State Academy of Sciences; a Fellow of four professional societies (American Ceramic Society, The Electrochemical Society, ASM International, and American Association for the Advancement of Science); and a senior member of the Mineral, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). He served on the Electrochemical Society's Board of Directors during 1992-94, received its Outstanding Achievement Award in High Temperature Materials in 1994, and continues as the Chairman of its International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells held biennially since 1989. He served as President of the International Society for Solid State Ionics during 2003-2005. He received the American Ceramic Society's Edward Orton Jr. Memorial Award in 2001; an Invited Professorship Award from the Japan Ministry of Science, Education and Culture in 2002; Christian Friedrich Schoenbein Gold Medal from the European Fuel Cell Forum in 2006; Fuel Cell Seminar Award for outstanding leadership and innovation in the promotion and advancement of fuel cell technology in 2007; and the prestigious Grove Medal in 2008 for sustained advances in fuel cell technology.

Mark C. Williams, FECS
Mark C. Williams received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering in 1985 from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Williams is the author of over two hundred papers and articles in various peer-reviewed technical journals, society proceedings, book chapters, encyclopedia chapters, and other publications and the editor of nine fuel-cell related books. He has conceptualized and patented some of the most efficient energy conversion systems ever conceived - fuel cell-turbine hybrids. He has been foremost in leading the efforts to commercialize fuel cells in the United States for two decades through the Department of Energy (DOE), Fuel Cell Seminar, Electrochemical Society, etc. He has been instrumental in formulating and directing the fuel cell programs of the U.S. (Fuel Cell Technology Manager, U.S. Department of Energy, Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance, for almost two decades), Taiwan and Austria. As the head of the U.S. DOE Stationary Fuel Cell Program, the world's largest stationary fuel cell program, Dr. Williams directed nearly $1 billion of critical federal stationary fuel cell funding for Phosphoric Acid, Molten Carbonate and Solid Oxide Fuel Cell R&D. Dr. Williams serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Fuel Cell Seminar and on the Boards of Advisers of other energy and fuel cell-related entities, such as the National Institute for Fuel Cell Technology; Center for Uncertain Systems and Tools for Optimization and Management; International Board of Advisers of the European Fuel Cell Forum; Advisory Board of Future Fuels, University of South Carolina; Editorial Board of the Journal of Renewable Energy; and the Advisory Board Florida Institute for Sustainable Energy, University of Florida. In addition, he served as the Chief Technology Officer of a fuel cell company for two years and is Adjunct Professor, University of Utah.
