Student Design Competition - H2Go: The Untapped Energy Source?
Sunday, Nov. 13, Competition from 1:30pm-3:30pm, Colorado Convention Center, Lower Level, 603-607
  Students will demonstrate their designs of a scaled, proof of concept prototype for rain energy conversion. The device is designed to propel a model car as far as possible in a straight line by converting the potential energy of one liter of water. Come cheer the student on as they present their innovative concepts before a panel judges and their peers. Click here for more details.
 
National Science Foundation (CBET & CMMI) Information Session
Monday Nov. 14, 9:45am - 11:15am, Convention Center, Lower Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1
  NSF stakeholders can learn about the Foundation and interactively discuss pressing issues with senior leaders from the NSF Directorate for Engineering (NSF/ENG). The Division Directors will present a brief overview of NSF and highlight ongoing initiatives within the NSF Directorate for Engineering and their respective divisions. Speakers include George Hazelrigg and John McGrath. An overarching goal of the session will be to discuss ways in which the ASME community and NSF/ENG can work together to strengthen the broader mechanical engineering community.
 
The Challenge of Overcoming the Japan Earthquake & Disaster
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 9:45am - 11:15am, Convention Center, Lower Level, Korbel Ballroom
  Akira Yabe, vice president of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and vice president of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology will discuss how Japan is coping with the damage caused by the great East Japan earthquake and disaster. Discussion will include the damage done to manufacturing machinery and new and revised mechanical engineering methods. The session will also address the degree of damage done to power plants from the viewpoint of design engineering, and a review of Japan's future energy resources.



The official language of the conference is English.
