BOSE Tour
Wednesday, November 5, 2008
1:15 PM - 4:30 PM
Cost: $25

Bose Corporation was founded in 1964 by Dr. Amar G. Bose, professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His graduate research at MIT led to the development of new, patented technologies, and with MIT's encouragement, he founded his own company based on those patents.

Bose Corporation established itself by introducing the 901® Direct/Reflecting® speaker system in 1968. With this introduction, Bose achieved international acclaim by setting a new industry standard for lifelike sound reproduction. The list of major technologies emerging from Bose continues to grow. Award-winning products such as Lifestyle® home entertainment systems and the Wave® music system have reshaped conventional thinking about the relationship between an audio system's size and complexity, and the quality of sound it produces.

Today, Bose Corporation is a privately held company with annual sales of $2.5 billion. Under Dr. Bose's leadership as chairman and technical director, 100 percent of profits are reinvested in the company's growth and development.

Northeastern University's Nanomanufacturing Center Tour and Reception
Wednesday, November 5, 2008
3:00 PM - 6:45 PM
Cost: $15

The NSF Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing (www.nanoneu.edu) is focused on developing tools and processes that will enable high-rate/high-volume bottom-up, precise, parallel assembly of nanoelements (such as carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles, etc.) and polymer nanostructures. The developed processes and tools will accelerate the creation of highly anticipated commercial products and will enable the creation of an entirely new generation of applications. The Center conducts research at the George J. Kostas Nanotechnology and Manufacturing Facility (www.kostas.neu.edu) which has 10,000 ft2 facility including a 7,000 ft2 cleanroom, with complete 6" wafer fabrication facility, E-beam and nanoimprint lithography, FESEM with Zyvex nanomanipulator, AFMs, surface analysis, thin film, elemental and particle characterization.

Immediately following the tour, Northeastern will host a reception for all tour attendees.
