HP Best Paper Award - Call for Papers

Deadline - August 18th, 2008

Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, for a third year, is sponsoring a competition for the best paper at the ASME IMECE 2008 Conference. The award is to encourage and support research focusing on topics in heat transfer and thermal systems design with specific interest in topics related to energy, sustainability, and multiphase heat transfer.

In particular, HP strongly encourages research and development on sustainability topics related to energy efficiency, alternative fuel systems and emission reduction. HP views these areas as critical for sustainable technological development, to maintain a positive balance on the environment and to reduce the negative impact on modern industrial society.

Prizes
Two prizes will be awarded at the ASME IMECE 2008 conference:
First place: $2,500.00
Second place: $1,500.00

Special Panel Session
This year a special panel session will feature the top five papers nominated by a special committee. The five lead authors will have an opportunity to summarize and discuss their papers. The committee will have the opportunity to evaluate the presenters and their presentations in an open session and select the top two papers. The decision of the committee is final.

Travel Assistance
The five authors invited for the panel session presentation will be given a travel assistance allowance of $200 each.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The first author on the paper must be a graduate student.
  2. The topic of the paper must be related to Heat Transfer and Thermal Systems but papers on energy and sustainability will be strongly encouraged.
  3. A complete technical paper must be submitted for inclusion in the conference proceedings as per the ASME/IMECE publication guidelines and posted schedule.
  4. The paper must be presented on-site.
