Ron Edelstein, Director of Government and Regulatory Relations, Gas Technology Institute

Ron Edelstein is Director, Government and Regulatory Relations, for the Gas Technology Institute. He is responsible for managing Gas Technology Institute’s voluntary or state funding program, working with gas local distribution company’s and state commissions to develop a gas consumer interest R&D program, the Federal government, principally Department of Energy and Department of Transportation, and developing Gas Technology Institute’s direct gas use strategy. Ron is senior staff facilitator for Gas Technology Institute’s Public Interest Advisory Committee, with membership from National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissions, National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates, and other public interest groups.


Ron is serving on the Home Energy Conservation Task Force to develop a low-income consumer conservation program for Tennessee. Ron has served on the Technical Advisory Board of the California Institute for Energy Efficiency and on the California Research Development and Demonstration Working Group to define public benefits R&D.


He has also been Director of Gas Technology Institute strategic and R&D planning, developing Gas Technology Institute’s five-year plans for approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for over 15 years. Prior to Gas Technology Institute, Ron has performed R&D program planning for the Solar Energy Research Institute (now National Renewable Energy Laboratory's), engineering consulting for Department of Energy’s solar thermal program, and structural engineering on gas turbines for Pratt & Whitney.


Ron received two Master’s Degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Engineering Science: Environmental Science & Technology and Engineering Science: Solid Mechanics. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida in Aerospace Engineering.
